FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I expect on my first Physiotherapy visit?

On arrival you will be greeted and shown to your private consultation room. You will be asked to fill out a short medical history form, which will enable us to choose treatment techniques that are appropriate and safe for you. Your Physiotherapist will then ask some questions about your present condition and health, before doing a physical examination. A diagnosis will be explained to you, and a treatment plan will be formed accordingly. With your consent, treatment will usually begin on your first appointment. Treatment usually involves a combination of techniques, including: Physiotherapy, Acupuncture, sports massage, and exercise rehabilitation.

What should I wear?

Loose comfortable clothing is ideal where possible. Depending on the area of the injury, some clothing may need to be partially removed for us to assess and treat the area of injury. You are welcome to bring a pair of shorts or a vest top with you.

Do I need to be referred by my doctor?

No, you do not need to see your GP or have a referral to book an appointment. You are welcome to book directly with us, by phoning or emailing for an appointment.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course, you may bring a relative, friend or parent with you if you would like to.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

After your initial assessment, you will be given an estimation of how many treatment sessions will be required. This varies depending on the nature and history of the condition. If an injury does not improve as we would expect, we will refer you onwards to your GP or consultant for further investigations as necessary.

Covid-19 Information

In line with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Covid-19 guidelines, face to face consultations can be offered. We are also offering online video remote consultations to help you until we are advised that we can re-open for non-urgent cases again. Staff Health: Any of our practitioners will not attend the clinic to work in any circumstances if they begin experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms. Our practitioners are testing their temperature on a daily basis when at work to identify any symptoms early. Patient health: You are asked NOT to attend the clinic if you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in contact with anyone with possible or confirmed symptoms within the last 14 days. The symptoms include (but are not limited to):

  • A fever / high temperature
  • A new, continuous cough
  • Shortness of breath / difficulty breathing
  • Sore throat
  • Body / muscle aches
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
Hygiene: We are washing our hands between every patient and during treatment sessions as required. A non-contact thermometer will be used to take patient’s temperature on arrival. Unfortunately treatment will be refused if a high temperature is found. The practitioner will wear the following PPE during the treatment session: face mask, apron, visor / glasses and gloves. Please wear a mask for your appointment if you have one. The practitioner will change into work uniform on arrival and upon finishing the shift will remove and place work uniform into a laundry bag to be washed at a high temperature. Hand sanitiser is available in reception and treatment rooms, and each patient is required to apply this upon arrival. All surfaces touched in the reception and treatment room are disinfected between each client, including the treatment couch, chair, keyboards, door handles, card machine and any equipment used. Social distancing: Patient and practitioner chairs have been placed further apart to adhere to social distancing. Reception chairs have been reduced and placed at 2m apart, but please arrive as close to the appointment time as possible to avoid unnecessary waiting time. Patient appointments are being spaced 15 minutes apart so only one client to arrives / leaves at a time, which allows any airborne droplets to fall and time for the extra cleaning measures in place. High risk - We strongly recommend that people in the high risk or vulnerable category do not attend the clinic at this time. This includes people over 70, pregnant or with an auto-immune condition or any other underlying health condition. Choice Physio Limited is doing everything that we reasonably can to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and minimise the risk of transmitting Covid-19 whilst remaining open for face to face appointments. We have reduced face to face consultations to only those who urgently require it. However, please understand that we cannot eliminate risk, especially as the Covid-19 virus spreads easily and is thought to spread from person to person when in close contact with each other. Whilst it is thought that people are most contagious when symptomatic, it is possible that the virus may spread in non-symptomatic people (people with the virus that show no symptoms). We are monitoring the guidelines closely and will adapt our practice accordingly should there be any change. Our clients safety and health is paramount to us, so please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, with extra measures in place in the clinic.
